Description:Often, when the cone is removed, the dog begins licking in the same spot and creates the lesion all over again. Tranquilizers such as Acepromazine, or PromAce, are sometimes used to attempt to calm the dog when lick granuloma is suspected to be caused by stress or fear. It is likely that the licking and the inflammation also cause the area to become pruritic, which leads to more frequent licking and perpetuates an itch-lick cycle. They keep licking until all the fur is gone and then continue until the skin starts to go. The approach in conventional veterinary medicine has been to diagnose as many contributing causes as possible, and then use a combination of treatments to address the issue. The laser instrument is used to ablate affected tissue by vaporizing the surface layers and nerve tissue so that minimal sensation is perceived.
